JULY YOUTH NEWS
by
Frank Secor
The only news at this time that I am
aware of is that I am attending the
computer networking classes at SMU (on Loop 610) and feel like my brain
is being scrambled. I hope to include some of what I am learning during
the 1999-2000 school year in my Electronics program at Bellaire High
School. Our students will have an opportunity to get an introduction to
networking technical skills which hopefully will give them a better
chance at entry-level electronics careers.
The SBE Youth Membership program will be offered to my
students also.
Those choosing to actively participate will earn grade points and/or
extra credit. Along that same line, mentors for some of our students are
needed to share a few hours during the year with young people interested
in learning about careers in Broadcast Engineering. I know from personal
experience that time spent with the engineering staff can reinforce the
desire to learn about Broadcasting careers. Some time ago it was my
pleasure to spend several days at Channel 2 with Richard Goldy and Don
Saenger updating my knowledge about the skills needed to enter the
Broadcast Engineering field. Don, I am still waiting for the ride on
your motorcycle that you promised!!!! Ha!
Again, many of you (SBE members) have helped tremendously
with our
electronics program, making it better as the result of your input. Any
suggestions for upgrading our electronics program would be greatly
appreciated.
That's all for now. God Bless each of you and your families.
