Cap of the Month- Chuck Primrose
I first became interested in television in high school. The local NBC affiliate
in Austin( KTVV-TV now KXAN-TV) had an explorer scout post and had sent
a letter to my older brother. He was not interested so, I went and joined.
After my sophomore year, I was offered a part time job running camera and audio.
I was promoted to master control operator and had loads of fun running
film projectors and 2 machines. I even got to setup old Norelco PC-70 cameras.
I attended the University of Texas for two years and worked at the then local
CBS affiliate (KTBC-TV) from 1981 to 1986 as a master control operator, tape
operator and maintenance engineer.
In 1986, I moved to Houston to work as a news engineer for KTRK-TV. The job
took
me all over the country in the SNG truck. This was a great job. During this time
I attended the University of Houston and received a degree in organizational
behavior and management. In 1996 I moved to operations engineering at KTRK.
Currently I am Chief Engineer at KTBU-TV Channel 55 "The Tube".
I joined the station a month before sign-on in July of 1998. It was a chore
installing the transmitter and STL under such a tight deadline. But it has been
worth the headaches to have the experience in signing on a new station.
